Even a brief rain shower at the starting line this afternoon couldn’t put a damper on Bigelow Laboratory‘s 10th annual Fun Run & Walk for Colorectal Cancer Awareness! (We are an ocean sciences laboratory, after all: we’re used to the occasional spritz of water!)
This annual event in downtown Boothbay Harbor honors Graham Shimmield, Bigelow Laboratory’s former executive director, who died in 2016. Including 2026, the event has raised more than $7,500 since the first walk in 2017. Money collected provides neighbors with financial assistance for colorectal cancer screenings and treatments.
Congratulations to race winners Kevin Posman, assistant director of Bigelow Analytical Services, and Christoph Aeppli, senior research scientist! To all the Bigelowians and loved ones who raced across the footbridge and back to support local cancer care and screenings: hats off to you! 💙
