World Ocean Day proved a fitting capstone to UMaine PhD student Sydney Greenlee’s academic studies at Bigelow Laboratory.
On Monday, Sydney successfully defended her dissertation in our forum, representing the culmination of six years of hard work investigating harmful algal blooms along the coast of Maine.
But completing her PhD program only represents one portion of her time at Bigelow Laboratory. Sydney was a 2018 REU intern, and she participated in both the Jan Plan program at Colby College and Sea Change Semester.
Congratulations to Sydney and fellow PhD recipients Samuel Tan, Kyle Oliveira, Rene Francolini, Shane Farrell, and Dara Yiu who completed their doctorate programs at our institution through the Maine-eDNA program! We’re excited to see these freshly minted docs around the docks of marine science institutions in the future.
