Seaweed Cookie, Anyone?

We aren’t fishing for compliments, but they are delicious. Think: matcha’s coastal cousin 🍪 🌊

This weekend, members of the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences team shared some of the wonderful – and unexpected – ways algae can be used in everyday life at Brunswick’s Curtis Memorial Library DIY Festival.

From pressed seaweed art to hand creams, the team from the Maine Algal Research Infrastructure and Accelerator (MARIA) project showed that when it comes to algae, we’ve only scratched the surface.

Thank you, MARIA team members, for helping the community envision the potential of algae to fuel Maine’s growing blue economy (and spice up some delicious baked goods!).
