Given Maine’s scalable aquaculture industry and heritage fisheries, long history of marine research excellence, unique algae innovation assets, and proximity to Boston’s life sciences hub, the state is well positioned to be a national leader in emerging blue biotechnology.
That’s why earlier this year, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences partnered with Hatch Blue to host the inaugural Maine Blue Biotech Studio. With support from Maine Technology Institute, the program assembled 10 companies working across health and wellness products, agriculture biostimulants and feed additives, novel reagents, and other areas to help them move from early stages to commercial scale.
