Transferring Nannochloropsis into a carboy of saltwater media takes some time. But Research Technician Lydia Pinard’s timelapse video makes the process look speedy!
Nannochloropsis is a promising microalgae for industrial applications ranging from biotech to biofuels. It is also used as a food source for fish larvae and zooplankton.
The saltwater carboy (really just a fancy airtight container) you see here promotes algal growth. This culture was added to the bioreactors in Bigelow Laboratory’s greenhouse.
Thanks to Lydia for sharing this cool timelapse video!
