Good Gourds

It’s true that Bigelow Laboratory’s Sea Change Semester gives students exclusive access to our state-of-the-art facilities, as well as the tools and mentorship needed to lead an independent investigation into questions they want to answer.

In addition to gaining valuable research experience, participants also have plenty of time for good-natured fun with others who are passionate about the ocean!

This week, the 2025 Sea Change Semester students and program staff had a blast carving festive jack-o-lanterns and enjoying an autumn dinner around a campfire. While this group shows impressive talent for ocean science, it’s worth noting that their Halloween carving skills also receive glowing marks!

No tricks here: if you’re looking to treat yourself to a transformative 14-week experience in 2026, consider applying for next fall’s semester. Applications are open on a rolling basis.
