Just like humans, phytoplankton need iron to survive. But while iron is plentiful on land, it is often much harder to come by in the ocean. Researchers from Bigelow Laboratory are part of an international team combining ocean expeditions with lab experiments to understand how different types of iron cycle through the marine environment and how phytoplankton can benefit from this trace metal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
