That\u2019s why we\u2019re so excited to celebrate #CoccolithophoreDay and splash these important microbes across screens everywhere!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the uninitiated, coccolithophores (<em>like the one shown<\/em>) are single-celled marine phytoplankton. They build shells made of calcium carbonate plates, produce oxygen, and absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis. As if that wasn\u2019t incredible enough: their blooms are even visible from space!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While we appreciate all the microorganisms we study, coccos have a special place in our hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Join us in celebrating by sharing this post.
