Those efforts just took another major leap forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In partnership with <strong>Atrandi Biosciences<\/strong>, a Lithuania-based biotechnology company, researchers have published a new approach for single-cell genetic sequencing that will enable scientists to read the genomes of individual cells and viral particles in the environment more quickly, efficiently, and cost-effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Environmental microcompartment genomics will help increase the throughput and quality of single-particle sequencing, allowing scientists to look at the microbial community more holistically, especially when it comes to marine viruses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Already, in the new study, the researchers showcase how the method is helping them identify and describe viruses in the Gulf of Maine, including those with unusual DNA chemistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-a89b3969 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button has-custom-width wp-block-button__width-50\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bigelow.org\/news\/articles\/2025-11-05.html\">Check Out the Full Story<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bigelow Laboratory&#8217;s Single Cell Genomics Center has long been at the forefront of advancing single-cell sequencing technology to better understand the vast and diverse world of ocean microbes.
