On Tuesday, team members on Bigelow Laboratoryโs latest GNATS (Gulf of Maine North Atlantic Time Series) research cruise spotted something huge in the distance: Mount Washington! Dave Drapeau, captain of the R/V Bowditch, snapped the mountain from about 80-90 miles away in the Gulf of Maine.

Also pictured in this set are Bigelowians from the day’s cruise, including Julia Brown, Tim DโAngelo, Sunny Pinkham, Farley Miller, Cath Mitchell, Kirsten Johnston, and Dave Drapeau.
For over two decades, GNATS has been an essential tool for capturing vital information on the biological communities of the Gulf and validating satellite-based measurements of ocean color with on-the-water observations.
