Sedimental Value

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences team undertook new sediment coring efforts in the Gulf of Maine, reaching much deeper depths on the continental shelf.

This expedition aboard the R/V Bowditch contributes to a project led by Senior Research Scientist Melody Lindsay to shed light on the diverse and enigmatic microbes in marine sediments.

We love that these photos include members from across the Bigelow team, including: Melody, Dave Emerson, Tim D’Angelo, REU student Ana Banchs Rodriguez, and Dave Drapeau.

Curious how microbes survive and thrive below the seafloor in some of the harshest environments on the planet?

Hear it directly from Melody at her Café Sci talk.
