For decades, Bigelow Laboratory has worked with the Maine Department of Marine Resources to advance research that can inform science-based management for the Gulf of Maine. Each organization brings its own perspective and expertise to the table.
Together, researchers have worked on several applied research projects that are illuminating the changing ecology of the Gulf of Maine in ways that benefit coastal communities, industries, and ecosystems.
The joint projects have included work on shellfish diseases, kelp forests, harmful algal blooms, sea urchins, and more.
