What happens beneath the seafloor where life survives on almost no energy? Thank you to everyone who joined us at Bigelow Laboratory this week for the second Café Sci talk to find out!
We are incredibly grateful to SRS Melody Lindsay, who took us on a fascinating journey from the depths of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge back to the Gulf of Maine. Along the way, she explained how microbes survive in some of the most extreme and inaccessible environments, how scientists access this life, and what microbial DNA from here on Earth can tell us about potential life on other planets.
Check out some of the great reactions we captured as attendees got an up-close look at a sediment core Melody brought back from one of her recent expeditions!
