Field Notes from Washington, D.C.

As Director of the Center for Seafood Solutions, Senior Research Scientist Nichole Price often travels to D.C. to meet with policymakers and federal agencies. This spring, she returned to educate those decision makers on challenges facing the shellfish and seaweed aquaculture industries.

She advocated for bipartisan bills like the Innovative Feed Enhancement and Economic Development Act and Plant Biostimulant Act — policies that would streamline innovation and open new markets for algae-based solutions in agriculture and aquaculture.

Trips like these help connect policymakers with Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences‘s research by showing how ocean science can strengthen working waterfronts and sustainable food systems.
