Maine has the resources, workforce, and people to become a national leader in the emerging blue biotech industry. Bigelow Laboratory, in partnership with Ocean House Consulting and Hatch Blue, is launching a major initiative to help make that happen.
Building on critical seed funding announced this month from the Maine Technology Institute, as well as recent federal investments that expanded capacity for translational research, the institute is building a Blue Biotech Innovation Ecosystem.
The MTI award will support an innovation studio and investor summit to support new commercial opportunities. That effort builds on the recent release of a regional ecosystem assessment and roadmap that identifies priorities for accelerating growth in this new industry.
All of these efforts are helping bring together entrepreneurs, investors, and researchers to ensure Maine is on the forefront of the innovations that create high-value products, businesses, and jobs from the ocean.
