While many families are gearing up for children to head back to school soon, nine Maine educators recently wrapped up some learning of their own during the BLOOM Educators program at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences.
During this four-day workshop, participants received training, tools, and hands-on research experience to better equip them to teach ocean science in their classrooms. In addition to attending seminars by scientists and engaging in lab exercises, they spent a day in the field on a research cruise.
Each educator also received a $700 toolkit and now has an opportunity to earn a stipend by piloting lessons during the upcoming academic year.
To the teachers who took part in this year’s BLOOM Educators program, thank you. And to all their lucky students who are about to learn a lot more about ocean science this year: enjoy!

“The BLOOM Program with Nicole, David, Aislyn and many more was exceptional learning in the field for we educators. I loved every minute of it! Thank you, Bigelow, for sharing this unique opportunity.”
