The inaugural September 2026 edition includes a fun back-to-school event at Boothbay Region Elementary School, new signage on our campus, and a deep dive into ancient DNA with Senior Research Associate Tim D’Angelo!
BACK TO SCHOOL
On August 26, Bigelowians Abby Jones (right) and Aislyn Keyes (left) represented our team at Set for Success – Boothbay. The program was hosted at Boothbay Region Elementary School, and it provided free backpacks, school supplies, clothing, and wellness services to local elementary school students. Abby noted that many attendees who stopped by our table were familiar with the lab’s work thanks to the educational and outreach events we lead throughout the year. Thank you to Abby and Aislyn for inspiring larval-stage ocean scientists at the event: science has a long, hopeful road ahead!
SIGN OF THE TIMES

TAPPING INTO HISTORY
On September 10, Senior Research Associate Tim D’Angelo led an Ocean on Tap talk at Ækeir Brewing in Wiscasset, giving community members a peek at how Earth’s history is encoded in the ancient DNA of invisible organisms. Thanks to Tim for sharing your science, and Kim Nutt for the snap!
