Bigelow Laboratory SRS Karen Stamieszkin, visiting student Reyes Martín Rodríguez, and REU Lulu Baker recently spent three days on a research cruise off Halifax, Nova Scotia, collecting samples to better understand how ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) may affect zooplankton.
Working alongside collaborators from Dalhousie University, the team is examining how this carbon dioxide removal strategy influences zooplankton communities.
They’re especially interested in the subtle physiological and energetic stresses from changing conditions that aren’t always easy to see but could have important consequences for marine ecosystems.

And while they were in Halifax, they couldn’t miss a visit to the Dalhousie University blue whale skeleton! 🐋
